Overview
Improve the website without starting from nothing
A redesign is often needed when a website looks dated, is slow, is difficult to edit, or no longer reflects the business. But a website also carries value: content, search rankings, links and integrations that should not be lost.
I first review the existing website to decide what should be kept, improved or rebuilt. Sometimes a targeted redesign is enough; sometimes a clean rebuild on a lighter foundation is the better long-term choice.
Either way, URLs, redirects, SEO settings and key functionality are planned carefully so the new website launches without losing what you have built up.
In short
What happens in a WordPress website redesign?
A redesign updates how your website looks and works while keeping what already has value: content, rankings, links and integrations. I review the current website, plan what to keep, rebuild it on a staging copy, add redirects for any changed addresses and switch over only when everything is tested.
Key facts
- Best for Websites that look dated, load slowly or are hard to edit
- You get New design and build, content moved, redirects and a tested switch-over
- Rankings Protected with page-by-page address mapping and 301 redirects
- Downtime None planned: the work happens on a staging copy
- Pricing Fixed quote for the agreed scope, before work starts

What the work includes
A redesign covers both how the website looks and how it is built.

Content, structure, plugins, performance and SEO assessed before decisions are made.
Modern, editable design
A refreshed design built with the block editor so your team can manage content easily.
SEO protection
URL mapping, redirects, metadata and analytics carried over to protect existing rankings.
Faster foundation
Heavy themes and unnecessary plugins replaced with a lighter, better-performing setup.
The approach
How to redesign without losing rankings
Most traffic losses after a redesign come from a handful of avoidable mistakes: changed URLs without redirects, pages that were quietly removed, titles and descriptions that were not carried over, or a staging site that was accidentally left blocked from search engines.
Before anything is redesigned, I export a full list of the current URLs and check which pages actually bring in traffic and enquiries in Search Console and analytics. Those pages are protected first: their URLs stay the same where possible, and anything that must change gets a permanent redirect.
The new design is built on a staging copy, using the block editor so your team can edit content without breaking layouts. Content is moved across and improved where it helps, and performance is measured against the old website so the new one is faster, not just newer.
After launch, Search Console is monitored for crawl errors and indexing changes, and anything unexpected is fixed quickly. I work remotely from India with clients in the UK, the UAE and worldwide. Working hours overlap well with both UK mornings and the Gulf working day, and communication happens by email, video call or your project tool.
When it helps
Signs a redesign could help
People usually consider a redesign or rebuild when they notice some of these.
- The website looks outdated next to competitors
- Pages are slow, especially on mobile
- Simple edits are difficult or break the layout
- The theme or page builder feels heavy and fragile
- Too many plugins doing overlapping jobs
- The site no longer reflects your services
- Enquiries or conversions have dropped
- You are moving away from a page builder

FAQ
Common questions
Answers to questions people often ask about website redesign & rebuild.
Will a redesign affect my Google rankings?
Any large change carries some risk, which is why URLs, redirects, page titles and content are planned and carried over carefully. The aim is to keep existing rankings and improve the technical foundation they rely on.
Can you keep my existing content?
Yes. Existing pages, posts, images and other content can be kept and moved into the new design. Content can also be improved or restructured where it helps.
Is the website down while it is being redesigned?
No. The new version is built on a separate staging copy while your current website stays live. It only replaces the old version once it has been tested and approved.
Should I redesign or rebuild?
It depends on how the current website is built. If the foundation is sound, a redesign may be enough. If the theme, page builder or plugin setup is causing ongoing problems, a rebuild is usually the better investment.
Can you redesign an Elementor website in Gutenberg?
Yes. Moving from Elementor to the block editor is a common reason for a rebuild. Content is carried over and rebuilt with blocks and patterns, which usually makes the website noticeably faster and easier to edit.
How do you decide what content to keep?
By looking at what performs. Pages that bring in traffic, links or enquiries are kept and improved. Outdated or duplicate pages are merged or redirected so nothing valuable is lost.
